Con il comunicato stampa di seguito allegato, Philips ha presentato un display 3D da 52 pollici in grado di carpire l'attenzione degli osservatori poichè capace di dare tridimensionalità alle immagini visualizzate senza la necessità di ricorrere ai classici occhiali 3D.
Il nuovo display 3D di Philips, che arriverà sul mercato nell'ultimo trimestre dell'anno corrente, è basato su uno schermo LCD e Full HD (1920x1080): esibisce, tra i parametri costruttivi, una luminosità (brightness) di 700 cd/m2, un rapporto di contrasto (contrast ratio) pari a 2000:1 ed un tempo di risposta di 8 ms.
Il senso di tridimensionalità è ottenuto mediante il ricorso alla tecnologia WOWvx, che gestisce ogni pixel dell'immagine come una unità di informazione in formato "2D-plus-Depth": in altri termini, ad ogni pixel sono associate non solo le (due) informazioni che ne fissano la posizione sul piano del display, ma anche un terzo dato (depth), che ne fissa la collocazione lungo l'asse perpendicolare al display (ed è questa la terza dimensione, ndr).

The 52-inch auto-stereoscopic 3D Display is based on a full HD (1920x1080) LCD panel, offering full brightness (700 cd/m2), full contrast (2000:1) and a response time of 8 ms. The WOWvx technology uses the 2D-plus-Depth format including Declipse, which gives additional occlusion information for a real 3D ‘look around’ effect. The 52-inch 3D Display will be commercially available from Q4 2008 onwards.
Philips will demonstrate the 52-inch 3D Display, along with a full range of other 3D Display and content products at the Philips 3D Solutions booth C1519 in Central Hall 1 of the Las Vegas Convention Center at InfoComm 2008, from June 18-20 in Las Vegas, USA.
