Tra le nuove video card non reference basate sulla recente gpu GeForce GTX 550 Ti di NVIDIA una posizione di primo piano, in termini di performance, è occupata dalle Ultimate GTX550 Ti DirectCU e GTX550 Ti DirectCU TOP di ASUS, due soluzioni di tipo factory-overclocked, in cui i processori grafici lavorano rispettivamente a 1015MHz e 975MHz, mentre il valore reference indicato da NVIDIA è pari a 900MHz.
Il limite raggiunto con la Ultimate GTX550 Ti DirectCU in particolare è frutto dell'adozione di un cooler in tecnologia ASUS DirectCU, con la quale viene esasperato il concetto di contatto diretto tra chip grafico e struttura irradiante.
Il sistema di raffreddamento sviluppato da ASUS risulta in grado di ridurre la temperatura, rispetto alla soluzione reference, di circa il 20% in condizioni di lavoro a pieno carico.
